Nobel’s GeoViewer™ IoT Remote Water Pressure Monitoring System enables water utilities to monitor for leaks. The company worked with Digi to build the hardware for the GeoViewer™ real-time water pressure monitoring system.
Nobel Systems installs the monitoring system for water utilities across main and lateral water lines.
“We set minimum / maximum thresholds for water pressure readings from GeoViewer™,” said Tanmay Thakur, Nobel Systems Internet of things(IoT)/ AI Engineer. “If there any readings of data above or below these thresholds, the water district will get alerts for high pressure or low-pressure readings, which are indications of leaks.”
The IoT monitor gives water pressure readings every five minutes, enabling a water utility to monitor for leaks in real-time, address urgent problems, and avoid water main breaks that could result in significant water losses.
A unique feature of the GeoViewer™ application is it can automatically create and assign Work Orders to the nearest field crews for a problem location. “Sometimes, a water district wants to assign the work order to a specific expert,” Thakur said. “It depends on the utility.”
Additionally, the remote water monitoring system can be customized to obtain pressure readings every three to four seconds.
“Digi has a portal called the remote manager, where you can program it and also send the configuration, according to the characteristics of a water district’s assets,” Thakur said. “There are sometimes transients in the water where the pressure spikes, every three to four seconds, and most devices are not able to capture these variations. But using this device [Digi’s remote manager], you can also capture these three-, four-second readings.”
