El Toro Water Tracking CCTV Inspections with GeoViewer [Video Demo]

Aretha Samuel · Leave a Comment

Mike Miazga, IT Manager at El Toro Water District, and other district employees show how they use Nobel Systems’ GeoViewer for CCTV inspections, sewer line cleanings, and a host of other operations and maintenance activities.

Miazga, who has been with El Toro for more than 18 years, noted that the district used paper atlases to track assets. Since the water district has gone digital, it now tracks all infrastructure and asset information using GeoViewer on iPads.

“One of the requirements, when we did this [converting to digital maps], is that the iPad [application] had to work disconnected,” Miazga said, “we had to be able to get to our as-builts and all of our infrastructures in disconnected mode. We’re in an earthquake zone here, and if cell towers go down, we need our map and access to our infrastructure, so that was a big selling point for us to go with Nobel.”

Miazga noted that El Toro Water District uses GeoViewer for a range of operational and maintenance activities from “customer service to pump stations to operations all across the district.”

“[Our staff] can pass work order tickets back and forth, work on them in unison, and it works great that way,” Miazga said. “At the end of the month, we can run a report, and we can see exactly what work has been done in the field, how many valves have been turned, how many customer service orders have been worked on. We can print a master report and hand it right into management, who hands it to the board of directors.”

CCTV inspections with GeoViewer

GeoViewer allows utilities to conduct maintenance hole inspections, repairs, recoats, root pulling, and root cutting and keep track of all work done yearly. Additionally, FOG (fats, oils, and grease inspections) can easily and quickly be done with GeoViewer.

Watch the video to learn more about how El Toro Water District uses GeoViewer or operational and maintenance work, and a live demonstration of how it uses it for CCTV inspections.

Ralph Palomares, Collections Supervisor for ETWD, talks about how the district conducts FOG inspections with GeoViewer. Ed Peterson, ETWD crew chief, discusses how their crew uses GeoViewer to conduct a wide range of maintenance inspections.
